Hair Care Myths Busted: What Really Works for Lustrous Locks?

The world of hair care is rife with myths and misconceptions. From the efficacy of frequent trims to the belief that cold water can make your hair shinier, it's time to separate fact from fiction.

Many of these myths persist because they're intuitive or because they served someone once, somewhere. But intuition is not science, and anecdotes are not evidence.

Myth: Cold Water Makes Hair Shinier

Cold water causes the hair cuticle to contract temporarily, which can create a reflective appearance. But this effect is temporary and doesn't improve actual hair health or shine.

Myth: More Shampooing = Cleaner Hair

Overwashing strips the scalp's protective lipid layer, triggering overproduction of sebum. The cycle spirals — the dirtier your scalp feels, the more you wash, the more you disrupt the acid mantle. Less frequent washing with the right product actually results in cleaner, healthier scalp.
