Lesson 1.2

Designing a Sustainable Routine

Written by Dr. Bre Hayward

Learning Objective

Start Small, Stay Consistent

The best routine is the one you'll keep. Begin with the core habits — wash day, moisture, night protection — and only add steps once the basics are automatic. A five-habit routine done weekly beats a twelve-step routine done rarely.

Match the Routine to Your Life

Design around your real schedule, your styles and your climate. Someone in humidity needs different refresh rules than someone in dry heat; someone in braids has a different moisture rhythm than someone wearing wash-and-gos. Routines serve lives, not the reverse.

When to Adjust

Reassess with the seasons, after every protective-style cycle, and after any damage event — color, heat, chlorine. Adjusting one or two habits beats rebuilding everything: keep the anchor habits and tune the edges.
